Lakewood Legal Innovation was formed in 2020 by Tamara Meyer after a diverse 30+ year corporate and legal career in which she served in senior leadership roles, including General Counsel, in both public and private companies. Tammy uniquely brings an experienced in-house perspective to her advisory work, with a deep understanding of the challenges and needs of in-house teams and their clients. In each of her in-house roles, Tammy developed and led large-scale reviews of legal service models to innovatively align them with corporate strategy and risk profiles, often during times of significant transformation. Tammy specializes in recruiting and growing in-house teams into trusted business advisors. She has built and led several best-in-class teams with a heavy focus on business partnering / acumen, optimizing resources, instilling “smart risk” / “get to yes” principles and driving metrics discipline. She also understands the law firm service model from over a decade of law firm practice and from building and managing global outside counsel teams.
Tammy is passionate about this work and has delivered outstanding results, including increasing the effectiveness, speed and quality of legal advice, streamlining processes, calibrating work (both inside and outside) to ensure proper staffing for risk levels / resources and generating millions of dollars in sustainable savings. She also advises on change management and cultural enhancements within legal teams, legal risk assessment skills and coaches legal talent. She has led several team integrations after mergers and other corporate transactions. Her work has led to awards from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (“Best of Blues” Award for Litigation Innovation) and the Daily Business Review’s 2019 Florida Legal Department of the Year honor while with WellCare Health Plans.
